We thought we would share our story of how sometimes something beautiful can come out of the hardest times.

 

A couple of years ago, my sister was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. To say the news was a shock is an understatement. In the days after her diagnosis, her husband researched, prayed, and trusted God to guide them toward the best course of treatment.

Alongside chemo and radiation, they made major lifestyle changes—cutting out unhealthy foods, removing toxic products from their home, and even eliminating most of their home fragrances. After we did some research, we discovered that many common candles, waxes, fragrances, and even certain wicks can release toxins into the air we breathe.

 

For my sister—someone who has always loved a beautifully scented home—this was especially hard. She threw away all her candles and room sprays, unsure if she would ever be able to enjoy them again.

We researched the cleanest, healthiest ingredients so she—and anyone else—could enjoy home fragrance without worry. Every wax melt we make is crafted with organic beeswax, organic coconut oil, and phthalate-free fragrance oils.

Watching someone you love go through so much makes you want to give them back even a small piece of joy. For me, that was creating something safe she could enjoy again. That’s how Olive & Ember was born.
